A defibrillator for Presdales Recreation Ground

There's now a defibrillator at Presdales Recreation Ground — and we hope it's never needed. The new unit, a combined defibrillator and bleed control kit, has been installed in a secure external cabinet at the ground, where it's available around the clock not just to our players and coaches but to anyone in the surrounding community who might need it. A defibrillator delivers a controlled electric shock to restart the heart during a sudden cardiac arrest. Used in the first minutes alongside CPR, it is the single biggest factor in whether someone survives — and survival chances fall with every minute that passes before one arrives. Having one on site, rather than waiting for an ambulance to bring it, saves the minutes that matter most. The kit came about through one of our own fundraisers, and through the generosity of the Hearts for Herts charity, who worked with us to make it happen. Our thanks go to them, to Justin for his help along the way, and to East Herts Council for carrying out the installation. How to use it in an emergency: call 999 first. The call handler will give you the access code to open the cabinet and will talk you through everything else. You don't need training and you can't do harm — the device guides you by voice through every step. Stay on the line. This is part of a wider commitment to safety across all our venues. Every Bury Rangers pitch has a Medical Emergency Action Plan setting out exactly what to do, and where the nearest help is, if the worst happens on a matchday. A defibrillator on the touchline is one more piece of that promise: that this is a club that looks after the people in it. One club. Every player.
