Results and Cancellations: Fines

Every missed result card and every unreported postponement is a fine. The fines land on the club, not the coach — which means they come out of the same pot that pays for pitches, referees and kit. None of it is difficult. It's a five-minute job done on time. This is what "on time" means. Check the current handbook. The deadlines below are taken from the 2024/25 rulebooks. Rules and fines are set at each league's AGM and can change. If in doubt, ask [CONTACT NAME]. What it costs Failing to provide a result is a fine of up to £20. A late result card or team sheet, up to £20. Failing to provide fixture details, up to £50. Failing to provide the referee's mark, up to £25. Failing to play a fixture, or failing to play on the date fixed, up to £100. Fines must be paid within 14 days. Miss that, and there's a further fine on top. Miss it again, and the league withdraws our fixtures until it's settled. And miss three or more fixtures in a season and the league can withdraw your fixtures entirely until the club submits a written explanation. That's the whole team not playing because of paperwork. Mid Herts League — results go on Mitoo Kick-off times must be in Mitoo by 9pm on Sunday. Fixture details — venue, access, kick-off time and kit colours including the goalkeeper — go to the opposition and the match officials at least 5 clear days before the game, which means by 9pm on the previous Tuesday. For midweek fixtures, the notice period is 48 hours. The result goes on the Mitoo result card by 6pm on the day after the match, with the referee's mark included. If the game is off, do all of the following. Tell the Fixture Secretary, the Referee Co-Ordinators, the opposing club and the match officials — without delay, not later that day. Then confirm the postponement in writing, by email or text, to your Fixture Secretary by 6pm on the day of the match. You don't need a result card for a postponed game, but the notification is not optional. Where a reason is required, record it accurately, for example being unable to field the required number of players. Free weeks are five for U7 to U11, and two for U12 to U18. Request them in writing to the Fixture Secretary at least 21 days before the fixture date. If you give the referee a mark of 60 or below, you must submit a report within 7 days. Herts Youth League — results go on Full-Time Fixture details go to the opposition and the match officials at least 4 clear days before the game — by midnight on Monday for a Saturday fixture. The away team confirms its kit colours at least 3 days before. Contact the appointed referee by midnight on the Monday before the fixture. If they aren't available, email the Referee Co-ordinator immediately. The result is two separate jobs, and both are fineable. First, return the result by 6pm on the day of the game — both clubs, home and away. Second, complete the result card in Full-Time within 2 days. That card needs player forenames and surnames, the Match Delegate's name, the referee's mark, and Respect marks for players, team officials and spectators. Doing the first and forgetting the second still gets you fined. If the game is off, tell the Fixture Secretary, the Referee Appointments Secretary, the opposing club and the match officials without delay, and report it through the automated text system. Before you stand a game down, remember the fixture can be reversed up to 24 hours before kick-off if your pitch is unplayable and the away team has a suitable venue — try that first. If the match genuinely can't be played, agree a rearranged date with the opposition and notify the Fixture Secretary within 3 days. Free weeks are two per team, requested in writing at least 21 days before. A school trip needs only 7 days' notice, provided you have a letter from the school naming the unavailable players. A Respect mark of 1, or a referee mark of 60 or below, means a report to the Discipline Secretary within 7 days. The differences that catch people out The two leagues are not the same, and coaching in both is where mistakes happen. Mid Herts uses Mitoo; Herts Youth uses Full-Time. Mid Herts wants the result by 6pm the next day; Herts Youth wants it by 6pm the same day, plus a full result card within two days. Mid Herts wants fixture details 5 clear days ahead, by 9pm Tuesday; Herts Youth wants them 4 clear days ahead, by midnight Monday. And if a match needs rearranging, Mid Herts gives you 7 days to notify a new date, while Herts Youth gives you 3. If you coach in both, don't work from memory. Work from this. The rule behind the rules Tell someone. Immediately. Almost every fine on this page comes from silence, not from a genuine problem. A waterlogged pitch is nobody's fault. Not telling the Fixture Secretary, the referee and the opposition about it is. Referees turn up and get paid whether the game happens or not — the full fee if we're the ones in default. Parents drive across the county. That's the real cost, and it's bigger than £20.
