U8s Lions Tournament Report

Shield Winners

The Lions travelled to Bishops Stortford this morning to play in our last tournament of the season and to build on the last two weekend's tournament experience.

We started well and narrowly lost in the first match but gave a much-improved account of ourselves. The Lions made up for it in the second fixture and got the result they deserved with a nice goal by Alessia.

Unfortunately, we didn't get the result in our third game against our only familiar opponents of the day in Ware, in what was a tight and well fought game. This earned us a place in the semi-finals of the shield side of the competition. Which we went on to comfortably win thanks to a Leila Hat-trick and a superb, well struck goal from Elodie. Anaya also played her part and made a fantastic save whilst in goal.

Then it was the final against Bedwell Dragons. Despite dominating the game, we found ourselves a goal down until the last kick of the game when Molly managed to score a well-deserved equaliser.

Extra time again saw us dominate and create chances and the introduction of Leila on pitch from in goal helped drive the Lions forward and Anaya returning to goalkeeper duties. Again, we played some nice football but couldn't quite find the back of the net!

Then it went to penalties which fortunately the girls held their nerves and went on to win with some excellently taken spot kicks.

Player of the Tournament
?Anaya - she was excellent throughout and contributed all over the pitch in both defence and attack. Not least in goal for the penalties saving two and after an epic dive trying to stop the last Bedwell spot kick (which she very nearly saved). She landed awkwardly and took a big hit to her hip but dusted herself off and composed herself to score our final pen! ??

Especially pleased with all of the girl's today for their attitude, togetherness and team spirit and most of all their sportswomanship!
